Principal's Bio

I graduated from Wayne County High School in 1975.  I attended Freed-Hardeman University and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education 1980.  I've also received my Master of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State University in 1985.  I furthered my education from TSU by completing thirty hours above my Master's Degree.

I am married to the former Sherry Lynn Bunch.  We have four children,  Shannon Beckham,  Jon David Byrd, Mary Milam, and Nick Milam.  Shannon is married with three children.  Jon David is married and teaching at JCS in Jackson, TN.  Mary is attending Columbia State, and Nick is a senior.

This is my thirty second year with the Wayne County School System.  I taught and coached at Waynesboro Middle School for four years.  I moved to Wayne County High School in 1985 where I taught and coached until 1996.  I was principal at Frank Hughes School for one year and decided I wasn't ready to give up coaching, and I moved back to WCHS and have been here since.  This is my seventh year as WCHS principal and my second year as assistant coach of the Lady Cats Basketball team.

Besides being with my family and coaching basketball, my favorite pastime is going on a cruise with my wife and friends.  My favorite cruise locations have been St. Marteen, St. Thomas, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman. My favorite memory at WCHS has been winning the Girls' State Championship as head coach of the Lady Cats in 2001 and 2011, and winning the Football Class A State Championship in 2011.
